Is it safe to go to the dentist during Covid-19?

We know it’s been a bumpy road this year on so many levels with the impact of COVID-19.
From daily routines being upended to the constant thoughts of how and when we’ll begin to see a “new normal”.

The dentist’s office is definitely a place you may question whether a visit is worth the risk or not, rightly so.

It’s easy to have cause for concern due to the fact that not only are you not wearing a mask during a dental procedure, but your mouth is exposed and open most of the time.

You’re not alone if you wonder about the safety of going to the dentist during COVID.

Is It Safe to Go to The Dentist During COVID-19?

Did you know that even though dentistry was flagged as a high-risk COVID-19 profession, only 1 percent of dentists were positive for COVID-19—a number far lower than other health professionals?

So, what do these numbers actually mean?

They’re essentially conveying what we in the dental field know and practice: universal precautions

(Universal precautions are the protective equipment like gloves, goggles, mask, and face shield that you see us wear and what ultimately reduces the risk of transmission of a potentially infectious disease.)

Because these precautions are part of our practice on a daily basis the risk for patients is very low.

We follow the American Dental Association guidelines as well as the CDC recommendations for best practices to keep both you and us as safe as possible during each visit.

Why It’s Important to Continue Your Dental Care During COVID-19

During your dental visit—as part of a complete check-up—we look for any signs of gingivitis, potential cavities, and infections—along with a full oral cancer screening.

These harmful dental conditions can easily be missed if you skip your appointment.

Unless you exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 or generally feel unwell, it’s important to continue your routine dental appointments

Your appointment is not only essential for the health of your mouth, but it can also help you forgo a potential emergency situation in the future.

We understand there’s much uncertainty in the world right now and it’s hard enough to get to the dentist when we’re not in a pandemic!

Rest assured that we take COVID-19 and the health of our patients seriously.

At Integrity Dental you’ll see—

• That we require screening and temperature checks upon arrival for both patients and staff

• The practice of wearing a mask in the waiting room and washing hands upon arrival

• Frequent sanitization of common area and surfaces

• A limited number of patients in our waiting room

Please don’t hesitate to speak with us about any concerns you may have during this time. Our goal is your comfort and a healthy mouth!
