Want to avoid an emergency visit to the dentist this holiday season?

(We know your head is nodding right now in major agreement.)

We understand you don’t want an unexpected visit to the dentist because of too much holiday cheer. (All that popcorn chewing!)

That’s why we want to talk about how you can avoid us (in a good way) during the hustle and bustle of Christmastime.

If you want to be on Santa’s “nice” list this year, follow these holiday tips for healthy teeth.

4 Holiday Tips for Healthy Teeth

Whether your choice of holiday fun is unplugging and relaxation, or you love all the festivities (pass the hot chocolate and cue the Christmas lights, please), these tips may help you avoid any major trips to the dentist.

  1. BE SMART ABOUT SNACKS

A nutcracker isn’t just a play; it’s a useful tool for the health of your teeth.

When you find yourself at a plate of beautiful cookies, and holiday treats—including nuts—try not to use your teeth as the enforcer.

Let the nutcracker do the work and save your teeth the trouble.

And while you’re at the smorgasbord of food, give your tooth enamel a break and be aware of how much chewy, sticky food is on your plate.

If you can stick to less is more (like not indulging in everything you see) when it comes to sweets, the health of your mouth will tell Santa how “good” you’ve been this year!

2. DON’T USE YOUR TEETH AS GIFT OPENERS

We know Aunt Mary can’t help herself with those double knots of ribbon, so do yourself a favor and keep scissors extra handy during this time.

When you use your teeth in place of tools that are meant to open an iron-clad present, you risk not only cracking a tooth, but an injured jaw, and even accidentally swallowing part of the wrapping!

Keep you and your family headache-free by cutting everything with scissors—not your precious teeth!

3. KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENTS

We know it’s one of the busiest times of the year (especially when you’re on the hunt for that perfect toy that keeps flying off the shelf).

If you can, keep your regularly scheduled dental appointments and maintain your daily oral health routine.

Brush twice a day, floss, and watch those sugary treats

4. FIND TECHNIQUES TO HELP EASE YOUR STRESS

Yes, stressed spelled backward is desserts, but there’s nothing sweet about feeling like you want to pull your hair out.

We definitely don’t suggest nail-biting for anxious relief either. This can lead to tooth sensitivity, grinding of teeth, and jaw challenges.

This year find techniques to help ease your stress like deep breaths, yoga, meditation, or even taking a long walk to decompress.

5. (Bonus Tip!) SING A HOLIDAY TUNE WHILE BRUSHING!

Get ready. Get set. It’s family sing-along time!

Grab those toothbrushes and start humming your favorite Christmas tunes for two minutes.

More time left from Dashing Through The Snow? Finish it off with a family dance party!

It may be the most wonderful time of the year, so please keep these holiday tips for healthy teeth in mind and pass along the gift of savings to you and your family.
